Northside Catholic Assumption Academy offers students the following in hardware and web-based programming:
Students in the 1st grade utilize Kindle e-readers to enhance their reading skills many different ways. By improving vocabulary, students will improve their reading comprehension skills and understand more difficult texts. With a Kindle, students will be able to put the cursor on a word they do not know and the definition appears on the screen. With Kindles, students will be more engaged in the reading. Research has shown that engaged students are the students that learn the most. Additional benefits include providing students with more approved children books than is practical in print, reducing photocopying, and relieving the unhealthy weight of student backpacks.
Lets’s Go Learn
Students in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade participate in a web-based program Let’s Go Learn. This licensed program provides students with foundational English Language Arts instruction at the K to 2nd grade level. After completing a DORA (Diagnostic Online Reading), each student is assigned a customized 60-lesson course.
IXL is a web-based program that targets math for Grades 3-8. The math problems have a wide variety of question types, from word problems to interactive graphing.
The Criterion® Online Writing Evaluation Service is a web-based and instructor-led writing tool that helps students plan, write and revise their essays. It gives them immediate diagnostic feedback and more opportunities to practice writing at their own pace. The Criterion service gives teachers and principal a comprehensive writing solution to help improve student outcomes by freeing up valuable classroom time to concentrate on higher level writing skills and areas of improvement.
